Atmo
Privacy Policy
This policy explains how LK Studio JP ("we") handles information in the weather app Atmo天气 (Atmo in English, アトモ天気 in Japanese; "the app").
Effective and last updated: November 4, 2026
1. Summary
- The app has no accounts, ads, behavioural analytics or tracking SDKs.
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos or device identifiers (including the advertising ID).
- Location is used on your device only, to pick a place. The coordinates themselves are never sent to us or stored.
- We do not sell your information or share it with third parties for advertising.
2. Information processed and stored on your device
- Location (only if you allow it): read while you use the app, then matched on the device to the nearest place in the app's built-in place list and used to work out which regional features apply. The coordinates are not stored; only the chosen place is. The app never reads location in the background.
- System language and time zone: read on the device only, to choose the display language and the regional features.
- Settings and data: home place, favourite places, language, appearance, notification settings, cached weather and warnings, and the last place and weather shown in widgets. These stay in the app's private storage and are excluded from system backup and device-to-device transfer.
- The app does not read SIM information, phone numbers, contacts or device identifiers.
3. Network connections and what is sent
To show weather, your device connects over HTTPS to the providers below. Because of how the internet works, each of them receives your IP address, the time of the request and the app's name and version.
| Recipient | When | What is sent | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atmo public weather service (operated by us, processed by a cloud hosting provider on our behalf) | Weather outside Japan, warnings for mainland China, and as a fallback for region detection | The place ID from the built-in place list | Fetch weather and warnings; work out a broad region from the IP address |
| Japan Meteorological Agency | Weather, warnings, earthquakes and rain radar for places in Japan | Area codes such as forecast districts | Fetch official information |
| Geospatial Information Authority of Japan | Rain radar map | Map tile numbers | Show the base map |
| WMO Severe Weather Information Centre (SWIC) | Warnings outside Japan | The reference coordinates of the selected place | Fetch official warnings |
| MET Norway (Norwegian Meteorological Institute) | Only while you are using the app, when the public weather service does not respond | The reference coordinates of the selected place | Fetch forecasts |
| ipify (United States) | Region detection | Nothing (only the IP address that comes with the connection) | Get your public IP address so the region can be worked out on the device |
- "Reference coordinates" are the coordinates of a place in the built-in list, not of your current location.
- The IP address is only used to tell broad regions apart, such as Japan or mainland China. This normally happens on the device with a bundled database (DB-IP), and the IP address is not stored.
- The public weather service's code does not log IP addresses, device identifiers or per-user access history. It stores only public weather data, fetch times and short-lived, service-wide rate-limit counters. The cloud hosting provider may process access logs that include IP addresses for operations and security, for a period set by its own terms.
- If you enter your own server in the advanced settings, weather requests (including place coordinates and your access token) go to that server, and we do not receive them.
- With notifications on, the app checks warnings for your home and favourite places about every 15 minutes in the background. With a widget added, it updates the weather about every 30 minutes. Android's power saving can delay both. These background checks never read your location.
4. Device permissions
| Permission | Used for |
|---|---|
| Location (precise / approximate) | Picking the place nearest to you. Without it, you can search for a place instead |
| Notifications | Warning and rain alerts |
| Alarms & reminders | Updating the clock widget exactly on the minute |
| Run at startup | Resuming warning checks after the device restarts |
| Network | Fetching weather and checking connectivity |
Location, notifications and alarms are optional, and you can withdraw them at any time in your device settings.
5. External websites and Google Play
- Links in the app (the feedback site, our official account, data providers' sites) open in your browser. Each site handles information under its own policy.
- What you send through our feedback site (built on a third-party website builder), and any contact details you choose to give, are used only to reply to you and improve the app.
- If you install the app from Google Play, Google handles distribution information under its own policies. If you have turned on sharing of usage and diagnostics on your device, Google may give us crash reports and aggregated statistics that do not identify you.
6. Retention and deletion
- Data on your device is deleted when you uninstall the app. You can clear cached weather in Settings.
- The public weather service caches public data only, replaced as it expires or when the cache is full. Rate-limit counters are cleared within a short time.
- The cloud hosting provider keeps access logs for the period set by its terms.
- Feedback is kept as long as needed to reply and improve the app, then deleted.
7. Disclosure and international processing
We do not disclose personal information to third parties except where required by law. The information we handle normally cannot identify a specific person on its own. The recipients in section 3 are located in Japan, Norway, the United States and elsewhere, and the hosting provider for the public weather service may be located outside Japan, including in the United States. Your information may therefore be processed outside your country or region.
8. Children
The app is not directed primarily at children, and we do not knowingly collect information that identifies anyone, of any age.
9. Your rights
- You can contact us (section 12) to make requests under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information, such as disclosure, correction or suspension of use, or to exercise rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws, such as access, erasure and objection. Because we normally hold no information that identifies you, we may reply that we hold none.
- Under the GDPR, we rely on our legitimate interest in providing the weather information you ask for, and on your consent, given through device permissions, for location and notifications. Users in the EEA and the UK may lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority.
- We do not "sell" personal information or "share" it for targeted advertising, as those terms are used in US state privacy laws.
10. Security
The app only uses HTTPS; unencrypted connections are disabled. We process the minimum information needed, our servers keep no per-user records, and we manage our operating credentials ourselves.
11. Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page with a new date and announce significant changes in the app or on our website. This policy is available in Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English. If the versions differ, the Japanese version prevails.
